You see them around more and more, those little pixelated squares on products, postcards, business cards, websites, tshirts, bags, coffee cups, the possibilities are limitless. I’m talking about the QR Code or “Quick Response Code.” The QR Code is a little piece of two dimensional barcode magic invented in 1994 by the Toyota subsidiary, Denso Wave. It’s original purpose being to track vehicles in the manufacture process, the QR technology would come to mean something MUCH bigger.
Today we see QR Codes in commercial tracking, entertainment and transport ticketing, product/loyalty marketing and product labeling. We see them on publications that direct you to their website or a landing page. We see them on business cards that contain Vcard contact info and can be scanned by a smart phone camera to automatically create a contact listing. I’ve even seen a few QR Code tattoos! (I would go with the temporary version)
QR Codes add new digital life to any object you can print or place a sticker on. How can you get your own code? Google search for “qr code generator” and be prepared to be overwhelmed, qr code generators everywhere! The following link will take you to one of my favorites http://qrcode.kaywa.com/. EDC has adopted this technology to provide you with Vcard contact info QR Codes for your own business cards or printing. If you’re interested in QR Code technology, call Rick at 800-445-2946.
